近期在翻译一份字节的文件，常常需要翻译异常、故障、报错等表达。但是字节的翻译记忆库（TM）似乎质量不高，经常混用。因此想总结一下各个词汇的常见用法。

Failure
the fact of something not working, or stopping working as well as it should
故障；失灵；衰退；衰竭
- He died of heart/liver failure.
- 他死于心脏／肝功能衰竭。
- The accident was caused by the failure of the reactor's cooling system.
- 事故是由反应堆冷却系统发生故障造成的。
Fault
a broken part or weakness in a machine or system
（机器或系统的）毛病，故障，缺陷
- The car has a serious design fault.
- 这款车存在重大的设计缺陷。
- An electrical fault caused the fire.
- 电路故障引起了火灾。
- For all the faults in our education system, it is still better than that in many other countries.
- 尽管存在种种缺陷，我们的教育系统仍然比其他许多国家的要好。
Error
a mistake
错误；谬误；差错
- He admitted that he'd made an error.
- 他承认犯了一个错误。
- The letter contains a number of typing errors.
- 信中有一些打字错误。
- Human error has been blamed for the air crash.
- 飞机坠毁被归咎于人为失误。
- With something as delicate as brain surgery, there is little margin for error (= you must not make mistakes).
- 像做脑部外科手术这样精细的事情，容不得半点差错。
Exception
someone or something that is not included in a rule, group, or list or that does not behave in the expected way
除外的人；例外的事物
- Men are usually quite good at map-reading but Tim is the exception.
- 通常男性都很会看地图，但蒂姆却是个例外。
- There are exceptions to every rule.
- 每条规则皆有例外。
- I like all kinds of movies with the exception of (= but not) horror movies.
- 除了恐怖片，各种电影我都爱看。
- Her books are always entertaining and this one is no exception.
- 她写的书总是妙趣横生，这本也不例外。
- You must report here every Tuesday without exception.
- 你每周二都必须来此报告，不得有例外。
